Pocket Expansion Mid May 2011

Boy are my hands tired…well actually my fingers and thumb joints are tired and my hands are sore, muscle wise…Docia and I met at the secret spot yesterday afternoon with the idea of expanding that pocket she found last Saturday. We decided to tackle it in ” Mike Streeter ” style, hard rock mining with sledge hammers and chisels. I wish now we had opted for a rock saw, lol.

Here is how the pocket looked last week when Debra, Denise, and Dora were with us….

Docia and Debra Work The Pocket

and here it is after Docia and I pounded on it with the sledges and chisels once again yesterday….

2 Expanded As Much As Possible

…we found a few goodies, but the really nice ones were glued in, seemed like. 🙂  we did leave a few pockets for the next time when armed with better tools….

4 Left Some For Next Attempt

…and the large center one is still there as well….

5 Big One Still In Center

…after two hours of pounding hard rock tho, we decided to check for pockets elsewhere…yes, easier to find pockets, lol.

Docia went left and I went right and we both located some nice potential areas fast…

7 Docia Looking for Pockets

…she started finding pockets and called me to come over and help her open them up…

8 Docia Finds Pockets

…here is one pocket opening up on the right side of the lighter colored shade of gravel and dirt…

9 Docia Finds Pocket on Right Side

…since it looked like everything was moving to the right side, I cleaned off more to the right and she went left more…

10 Expanding Search To Right Side

..and I found more potential to the right and she found more potential on the left side…

11 Opening Pocket Up, Loose Chips in Front

..that little white spot of calcite up on the left side of the pocket she found, indicates to us another potential pocket in that area…which she found a few min later…but first we decided to see how big this one was, and started removing loose crystals from the front of it…

12 Loose Chips in Pocket

..and then we looked inside it….

13 Looking In Can See Druse Plate and Chips

…and my, oh my, pretty sparkly druse plates and poker chips were what we saw inside. So with that motivation, Docia started clearing more the left and found yet another pocket….

18 Docia Finds A Pocket To Left Side

..and I went to the right side and found two more pockets, that combined into a wide pocket…

21 Now Working Four Pockets

…looking inside Docia`s new pocket, we saw several large and loose poker chips and some small druse plates…

19 Another Pocket Goodies Inside

…I turned on my flash and shot again and its goodies as far as you can see…

20 Lotsa Goodies Inside

..and as it turned out, it was quite a ways in there full of loose goodies…we were both reaching almost to our shoulders, well past our elbows, into the pocket and downward no less. While she worked on retrieving loose crystals and plates from her pocket, I worked on the two on my side as well…

23 Two Pockets On My Side

…the one on the left showing signs of some nice stuff…

24 Evidence of Chips and Plates

..and it eventually tied in with the first pocket she found up there as well…

25 The Pocket Inside

…her pocket once cleared of the goodies in front, started looking even deeper….

26 Docias Pocket Goes Deeper

….and as we contemplated exploring further, we started hearing the rumblings of thunder and decided to stop there….as soon as I can this afternoon, I will clean up some of my plates and chips and get some more photos posted.

Here are some of my finds from the pockets….

…those are all I have til the next time we visit the spot again and find out if we can extract some more goodies…wont be doing anything til all this severe weather stops coming around…my prayers are with the folks of southwest Missouri who were devastated last night with a very destructive EF-4 tornado in the Joplin area…..
